Describe the known source inventory

A garage can contain a vehicle, equipment, stored products and household items. Record which items are confirmed involved, which were nearby, and which details are uncertain. Do not turn “garage fire” into a complete chemical or residue diagnosis.

Keep the event account and accessible observations separate from cause conclusions. Appropriate emergency, environmental or other specialist roles may be needed for the actual event and stored materials; a general restoration scope has limits.

Clarify the building connections

Ask how the assessment considers the garage, openings or shared assemblies and adjacent occupied areas. An access limitation should remain “not inspected” until resolved. The conceptual house tool can help organize a discussion but cannot establish transport or exposure.

If vehicle/equipment work and building restoration involve different parties, name the interfaces. A room-cleaning completion record does not decide vehicle function, stored-product safety or the condition of electrical equipment.

Prepare separate item categories

• Building surfaces and assemblies.
• Vehicle/equipment and component records.
• Stored products requiring appropriate handling advice.
• Household contents with item IDs and evidence.
• Areas and materials awaiting further assessment.

Make removal and completion traceable

Ask who determines hazardous waste handling and who authorizes contents disposal. Do not move potentially affected garage contents into an occupied room simply to keep them out of the work area. Agree an appropriate handling/storage plan with the responsible provider.

The completion record should distinguish restored areas, replaced items, specialist work and unresolved exclusions. Keep the rationale rather than a general statement that the garage was “cleaned,” which may leave important interfaces unclear.
