Read a material-cleaning test

State the purpose first

Ask whether the test evaluates appearance, finish compatibility, process feasibility or another defined outcome. The purpose controls what can be inferred from the result. A visually improved patch is not automatically a contamination assessment or an occupancy decision.

Record the exact item, surface, coating, location and existing condition. A result on one material should not quietly become approval for a different coating or inaccessible assembly.

Treat unsuccessful results as information

If the test is unacceptable, ask what changed and which alternatives are appropriate. A failed test can support a revised plan, but the provider should explain the basis rather than simply switching to a stronger product. Material condition, access and intended use still matter.

Avoid using the site’s wipe visual as a real-world cleaning instruction. It illustrates observation categories and how changing a surface can alter the evidence. Qualified assessment governs actual products, controls and work.

Authorize the next step deliberately

• Does the result support expansion to the named area?
• What finish change is acceptable?
• Which components remain unassessed?
• What additional expertise is needed?
• How will the final result be recorded?
