Ask what the equipment is meant to address

A proposal may involve reactive equipment, sorbent media or particle filtration. Identify the exact device, media and purpose. A particle rating does not establish gas removal, and a gas-treatment claim does not answer material or occupancy questions.

Ask for the relevant product performance information, limitations, maintenance and responsible expertise. This page does not certify hydroxyl equipment or recommend an operating setting.

Keep the source and room connected

Clarify whether an ongoing source remains, which retained material is involved and how the proposed equipment fits into the broader work scope. Equipment should have a stated purpose rather than being treated as a substitute for source assessment.

For media, ask what capacity and replacement information applies to the actual product and purpose. For reactive processes, ask how compatibility, access, relevant by-products and completion are established.

Compare proposals with the same questions

• Which contaminant/process purpose is documented?
• What evidence supports performance in this use?
• What materials and occupants are considered?
• What maintenance or replacement is required?
• Which result is checked and by whom?

Keep broad labels out of the handover

If a proposal says “safe,” “natural” or “eliminates all odour,” ask for the defined conditions and evidence. General indoor-air guidance and a manufacturer’s marketing description do not clear a fire-affected building. Retain the project-specific basis.
