SMOKE + RESTORATION GUIDANCE

Fogging and vapour-treatment questions

A method name is not enough information to approve a treatment.

Identify the exact proposal

Terms such as thermal fogging, ULV fogging or vapour treatment describe a broad process label. Ask for the actual product/equipment, intended purpose, materials, controls and responsible expertise. Do not infer that a method is suitable because the name appears in a restoration estimate.

A provider should explain what has been assessed, what source work comes first and what outcome will be evaluated. Fragrance, masking and a documented source-treatment result should not be treated as interchangeable.

Connect compatibility with the item list

Ask which contents and finishes are in the treatment boundary and which are excluded or removed. Electronics, artwork, food and close-contact items may need their own decisions. A room-level treatment description should not silently approve every item in that room.

Clarify access and occupancy arrangements before work. This site provides no product mixture, application dose, exposure time or re-entry instruction. Actual manufacturer information and qualified planning govern the project.

Keep a treatment record

RecordQuestion it should answer
Method/productWhat was proposed and used?
BoundaryWhich rooms/materials were included?
Source workWhat preceded the treatment?
ControlsWho established access and relevant safeguards?
CompletionWhat result and limitations were recorded?

Define the follow-up

Ask what happens if the agreed result is not achieved or an odour returns. Keep a located, dated observation record and the original scope. Avoid repeating a broad treatment without a new explanation of the unresolved source.
