Do not use a power-on test as an assessment

Affected electrical or electronic equipment needs the appropriate trade, manufacturer or equipment specialist. Do not energize an item to see whether it still works. Heat, water, deposits and internal access can create questions that a cosmetic cleaning scope does not address.

Record the make/model and room from safe existing information. Avoid putting serial numbers, account credentials or private device contents into a public enquiry. Describe the event conditions and leave function/use decisions to the responsible specialist.

Distinguish components and responsibilities

Keep equipment records with the item

Ask for the inspection findings, manufacturer information used, work performed, exclusions and recommendation about intended use. If a unit is replaced, retain the documented reason instead of relying only on a broad category label.

Appliances may connect to gas, water or ventilation as well as electricity. Clarify disconnection, assessment and reinstatement responsibilities before a restoration crew or owner moves equipment.

Make the handover explicit

• Who authorizes return to service?
• Which component or function remains unassessed?
• Does the manufacturer need to be involved?
• What repair/warranty limitations apply?
• How will device data and privacy be protected?
