Clothing and household textiles
Useful contents decisions start with item identification and intended use.
Create categories without losing individual items
Group similar items for organizing the record, while retaining IDs for valuable, delicate or disputed pieces. Note fibre/care-label information when already available, original use and visible event conditions. Do not handle affected contents just to produce a more detailed inventory if access or exposure remains unresolved.
Separate ordinary clothing, specialty garments, bedding and other textiles when they need different treatment or use decisions. A proposed process should be appropriate to the actual item and its finish.
Ask what the provider will establish
Clarify which items are assessed, what testing is proposed, what outcome is expected and what limitations remain. Cleaning, odour treatment, appearance and suitability for intended use should not be collapsed into one unexplained “restored” label.
For specialist work, ask who carries custody of the items and where they are sent. Record pickup, item IDs, treatment authorization and return condition. These records help reconcile an inventory even when a result is not acceptable.
Keep decisions and costs separate
- What is the item-specific basis for treatment or replacement?
- Which process and specialist are proposed?
- How are unsuccessful tests or treatments handled?
- Which values are owner estimates versus insurer determinations?
- What return and follow-up terms apply?
Use the inventory as a record
The contents-inventory tool stores only the entries you choose to save on this device. Its totals are arithmetic from your inputs. It does not assign replacement value, depreciation, coverage or an approved settlement. Export a copy if you need to keep the record outside this browser.
