Temporary living costs and receipts
Ask what your policy and claim require before treating an expense as payable.
Confirm the actual coverage position
Government of Alberta wildfire insurance guidance discusses additional living expenses while stressing policy terms and limits. Whether an expense is covered for a specific event depends on the actual policy, loss and insurer’s decision. This site does not promise accommodation or reimbursement.
Ask the insurer what arrangements are authorized, which limits or time conditions apply and what documentation is required. Keep instructions in writing where possible. Entry restrictions, displacement and policy coverage are related but distinct questions.
Document the expense and its purpose
- Date, provider and receipt.
- What the expense was for and whom it concerned.
- Relevant approval or insurer communication.
- What amount has already been claimed or reimbursed.
- Any outstanding question about eligibility or limits.
Keep privacy out of the service form
An assessment enquiry can say that occupancy is unresolved without disclosing medical conditions, family schedules or a temporary address. Discuss sensitive circumstances with the appropriate insurer or professional through their suitable channel.
Keep original receipts and a backup. A website checklist is an organizer, not a substitute for the insurer’s requested forms or claim information.
Ask about a changed situation
If repair timing, access permission or accommodation needs change, ask how the actual claim arrangements should be revised. Do not rely on an online universal number of covered days. Retain the new instruction with the date and responsible contact.
